![]() ![]() We look forward to returning for delicious tacos and more mesmerizing Mayan performances. It is less expensive and less touristy, allowing visitors to truly embrace the local culture. Sitting near the boardwalks, sipping coconut water, and immersing ourselves in the local culture and good vibes was a truly delightful experience.Ĭompared to Cancun, Playa del Carmen offers a more authentic local experience with plenty to do. However, this did not diminish our enjoyment. The park also boasts a variety of local shops, vendors offering souvenirs, fine dining options, and food trucks, making it a hub of activity and shopping.ĭuring our visit, we noticed that the beach had a significant amount of seaweed, which could be attributed to the season. This lively park is filled with vibrant Mayan dances such as "Palo Volador" and "Danza de los Voladores," providing an enriching cultural experience. Parque Los Fundadores in Playa del Carmen is a true hidden gem and a must-visit location. You can also access that side of the cenote by taking the private property trail I mentioned above :) I recommend swimming out to the north side, there's a sandy beach you can hang out on, and way fewer people so you can get those beautiful shots of nature. Wear very good sandals if you want to walk around at all, the ground is broken lava rock with really cool fossils everywhere you look. Kids and those who tire while swimming should consider them though.īring a sun shirt to swim in and wear (no sunscreen is allowed in the cenote- ouch!). We did not need life vests, you float just fine in the ocean water. The best fish can be seen right where you get in the water, at the south tip. The amount of fish you see is INCREDIBLE! Big parrot fish munching on coral, electric blue fish, so many I don't have a name for. We paid for it and it was worth the price for us. ![]() This place charges a $300 pesos (or $14USD) fee to enter the lagoon from their property. You can walk in for free from the west side (must drive by car on the freeway) or you can swim in from the sea. PLEASE READ: You do not have to pay to access the cenote. If you don’t get something … so you could get one picture or you can get the whole package which is what we decided to do. We saw a tiny bat hanging and it would have been great to get that pic! Yes, the price is expensive for the package but it’s a once in a lifetime memory and you’ll have no record of it. maybe say “oh take a picture of this over here” because it’s all in the packageīut if there’s things you see that you want her to take a picture of I would recommend asking her “can you please take a picture of this for me?” but I wouldn’t spend too much time on that but if I’d known I would’ve had her take a picture of a couple really cool things that we saw. So when you’re underground with your group and you see the photographer. The package is pictures of you that she takes, and all the other pictures that she took down there You could not bring your camera underground with you so of course so there’s no pictures of that in my review but at the end you could buy a package for $100 or each individual picture for 25 It was for the beauty of these underground rivers in Mexico I wasn’t really impressed with the lunch they served, but that’s really not why we went on this excursion. I didn’t feel scared and we were safe the whole time. Our guide Ari was really knowledgeable and we had a lot of fun with him. It was really so interesting and so beautiful Highly recommend this underground river tour. They have lockers for swimming activities just seems cruel and they swim around looking quite depressed until it is time to work. One star off as I just can't get behind the dolphin enclosure areas. ![]() Would come back if I was in the area - tons to do and lots of nice places to chill out and relax, or go on more adventurous things if you want. we got a fruit drink type thing and it ended up being about $14 CAD. Nice expansive gift shop at the end - great for a leisurely browse if you like that sort of thing. Some of the exhibit areas were really well done - the aviary reminded me totally of Jurassic Park. There is a ton to see and a heavy emphasis on Mayan culture and flora/fauna. This park is definitely one of the best - it is so large it can be overwhelming but I'd still encourage anyone to take their time, just maybe make a plan. ![]()
